Skyline University of Nigeria (SUN) has held its 4th convocation ceremony, graduating 223 students across various faculties and disciplines. The ceremony took place on 15 November 2025 in Kano, drawing dignitaries, government officials, traditional rulers and members of the academic community.

Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ajith Kumar V. V, said the institution’s vision goes beyond producing job seekers. He noted that SUN is committed to developing job creators who can drive social and economic transformation in Nigeria.

Prof. Kumar highlighted entrepreneurship as a core part of the university’s academic philosophy. According to him, facilities such as the HP Gaming Garage, and the Innovation and AI Lab were established to help students build practical business ideas, develop innovative solutions and launch tech-driven start-ups.

He added that through initiatives supported by the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the university trained 50 young entrepreneurs in digital literacy and innovation programmes during the 2024/2025 academic session. The university also secured the World Bank Innovation, Idea Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills Project, which has enabled thousands of youths to acquire key digital and technical skills. Beneficiaries, particularly from Kano, received training in cybersecurity, programming, web design, desktop publishing and other ICT-related fields.

Announcing the convocation figures, the Vice Chancellor revealed that the 2025 graduating class consists of 180 bachelor’s degree recipients and, for the first time, 43 postgraduate degree holders. He also confirmed that the session produced 24 First Class graduates, 37 Second Class Upper, and 77 Second Class Lower.

Prof. Kumar urged the new graduates to see their degrees as the beginning of a lifelong journey of service, innovation and leadership.

Sanusi II: “Education is about discovering purpose”

The Chancellor of the university and the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, described the ceremony as a symbol of resilience and hope for the country. He reminded the graduates that education goes beyond earning a certificate.

“Education is about discovering your purpose. It is about thinking independently, having the strength to act with conviction and the wisdom to choose wisely,” Sanusi said.

He encouraged the graduates to use their knowledge to inspire change, promote justice, solve problems and uplift their communities. Nigeria, he said, stands at a crucial point between greatness and stagnation, urging the students to build a future anchored on integrity, inclusion and innovation.

The emir also celebrated the strong female presence at the event, noting that 60 percent of the graduates were women. He expressed hope that this marks the beginning of greater female participation in governance and nation-building.

Governor Yusuf praises SUN’s impact on youth development

In his remarks, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Deputy Governor, said education remains the “height” of his dream for Kano State. He noted that declaring a state of emergency on the educational sector was a sincere commitment to transform learning and secure the state’s future.

He described the convocation as a new beginning for the graduates who worked with discipline to earn their degrees. The governor commended Skyline University as “a beacon of quality education, innovation and global excellence,” adding that the institution has become a living example of how vision and collaboration can change lives.

Kwankwaso hails Skyline as best in Northern Nigeria

Former Kano State Governor and NNPP leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, also praised the management for establishing what he called the first private university in Kano and “the best in Kano and Northern Nigeria.”

He said the university stands out for attracting highly qualified experts as lecturers. Kwankwaso also thanked the institution for appointing Emir Sanusi II as Chancellor, describing him as a strong advocate of education.

He reminded graduates that good education should empower them to create jobs rather than depend solely on employment.

Graduating student celebrates global exposure

One of the graduating students, Asma’u Muhammad from the School of Arts, Management and Sciences, said the university widened their global exposure and prepared them for international opportunities. She noted that platforms such as TEDx events improved their confidence and communication skills.

She thanked the lecturers for pushing students to achieve excellence and appreciated parents for their support throughout the journey.

The colourful event featured a graduating students’ procession, faculty procession, a flag march by students of different nationalities, conferment of degrees, academic awards, staff recognition and the unveiling of the SUN Newsline.

The ceremony attracted prominent personalities, including Emir Sanusi II, representatives of the Kano State Government, Senator Kwankwaso, Hisbah Commander-General Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, officials of security agencies, commissioners, vice chancellors from other institutions and various stakeholders.
