Former Kano State Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has sought forgiveness from anyone he may have offended throughout his 70 years of life, while also extending forgiveness to all who may have wronged him.

He made the appeal during an interactive session with journalists in Kano as part of activities marking his 70th birthday celebration.

Shekarau said it is possible that, knowingly or unknowingly, he might have hurt some people during his years in public service and political life, stressing that he holds no grudges against anyone. He noted that his actions and decisions have always been guided by truth, discipline, and the teachings of Islam, particularly during his years in governance.

He described his life as one defined by faith, morality, and a continuous effort to serve humanity, adding that he intends to remain active in politics for the rest of his life. According to him, politics is not a career that ends with time but a lifelong duty rooted in moral and religious responsibility.

The former Minister of Education stated that his political philosophy has always been centered on honesty and accountability. He explained that his participation in politics has never been for personal ambition but to contribute to the emergence of fair and responsible leadership.

Reflecting on his journey, Shekarau said his involvement in leadership began in the 1980s when he held positions in teachers’ unions and later became the National President of Police Schools in Nigeria. He said those early experiences strengthened his commitment to public service and leadership.

Shekarau, who governed Kano State from 2003 to 2011, expressed pride in being the first politician to unseat an incumbent governor in the state. He attributed his success to faith, discipline, and the trust of the people.

He expressed concern over Nigeria’s political atmosphere and called for unity among opposition parties to strengthen democratic governance. He also commended the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for its resilience, describing it as one of the few parties that has remained strong and relevant since 1998.

On national issues, Shekarau urged the federal government to intensify efforts in addressing insecurity, poverty, and hunger, noting that peace and stability can only thrive when citizens live decently and free from deprivation.

He concluded by expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future and reiterated his readiness to support any administration committed to good governance, compassion, and the welfare of the people, irrespective of political affiliation.
