The secret service announced the development in a post on X on Tuesday, explaining that the dismissal was in line with efforts to sanitize the system and ensure accountability among its staff.
In its statement, the DSS cautioned the public against dealing with individuals parading themselves as serving officers, revealing that some of the dismissed personnel have been impersonating the agency for fraudulent purposes.
To promote transparency, the DSS said it has published the names of the affected officers on its official website and urged citizens to verify the identities of anyone claiming to be its operative.
The agency also reminded the public of earlier warnings issued against individuals such as Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, who were accused of defrauding unsuspecting Nigerians under the guise of being DSS operatives.
