The announcement was made on Tuesday during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners at the INEC headquarters in Abuja. Yakubu handed over to May Agbamuche, the oldest serving National Commissioner, who will now serve as Acting Chairman pending the appointment of a substantive head.

In his address, Professor Yakubu urged commissioners and directors within the commission to extend their full cooperation to Agbamuche as she takes on her new responsibilities.
Agbamuche is expected to oversee the commission’s affairs to ensure continuity and stability in the management of Nigeria’s electoral processes.
