A Socio-Cultural Group, Owan/Akoko-Edo Alliance, has hailed the choice of Chief Marvelous Omobayo as the Deputy Governor of Edo by Gov. Godwin Obaseki.

This is contained in a statement by the group’s Convener, Mr Sunny Ifijen and the Secretary, Mr Ogumah Omeiza, in Abuja on Monday.

The group also said that the election of Mr Blessing Agbebaku as the state Assembly Speaker had given the Akoko-Edo and Owan people a sense of belonging.

It said that with the deputy governor and speaker coming from the Akoko-Edo and Owan areas of the state, the people now had a rallying point.

”Akoko-Edo and Owan people have been denied political partronage because they lacked a rallying point.

”With this development, the people now have what they lacked and yearned for in the past 15 years,” he said.

The socio-cultural group also said that Owan and Akoko-Edo people had suffered dearth of infrastructure due to lack of representation in the government.

”These leaders can now mobilise the people politically and position the area for development.

”The lack of effective political leadership in these areas was a major barrier to community mobilisation and investment attraction,” the statement read in parts

The group pledged the commitment of the people to support Omobayo and Agbebaku to play effective roles in the sustainable development of the state.

NAN recalls that Omobayo emerged Edo deputy governor following the recent impeachment of the former deputy governor, Philip Shaibu by the state assembly.
