The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Professor Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following a comprehensive screening exercise.

His confirmation took place on Thursday through a voice vote presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

During the screening session, Professor Amupitan presented his vision for strengthening Nigeria’s electoral system. He pledged to promote credible polls, implement institutional reforms, and enhance the use of technology in election management.

Amupitan, a professor of constitutional and international law, was accompanied by dignitaries including Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo. His nomination was reviewed and cleared by the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services, and the Office of the Inspector-General of Police before Senate confirmation.
