The ceremony, held in Kano, saw 590 new beneficiaries selected to further their postgraduate studies, with 350 to study abroad and 240 in Nigerian universities.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining educational investment as a driver of development and innovation in Kano State.
Governor Yusuf explained that the scheme, originally introduced by Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, was revived under his administration to strengthen the intellectual and professional capacity of Kano youths. He recalled that 418 students benefited from the first phase of the initiative at a total cost of N5 billion, noting that many have completed their studies successfully, with some securing employment opportunities overseas.
“This second phase involving 350 foreign and 240 domestic postgraduate students marks another milestone in our journey to build a strong resource base that will position Kano as a hub of excellence and progress,” the governor stated.
He congratulated the new beneficiaries for their academic achievements and moral integrity, urging them to remain disciplined and represent the state and country with pride.
Governor Yusuf further highlighted that education remains a top priority in his administration, noting that 31 percent of the 2025 state budget has been allocated to the sector, the highest in Kano’s history.
He expressed confidence that the scholarship scheme will not only uplift individual beneficiaries but also contribute to the long-term social and economic transformation of Kano State.
