The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday received a report from the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) declaring Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), medically fit to stand trial.

The NMA submitted its findings to the court on October 13, following a comprehensive health assessment.

The court had earlier directed the NMA to carry out an independent evaluation of Kanu’s health due to conflicting medical reports from the defense and prosecution. Kanu faces terrorism charges filed by the Federal Government.

After reviewing the medical report and noting no objections from either party, Justice James Omotosho ruled that Kanu can proceed with his trial. The court scheduled six consecutive days, starting October 23, for him to present and conclude his defense.

To protect confidentiality, the court also approved a private consultation between Kanu and his lawyers, set for October 22 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the courtroom.
