Gov. Banagana Zulum of Borno has approved N80m grant to Guwori Islamic Academy in Jere Local Government Area of the state.

Zulum, who announced this on Sunday at the graduation ceremony of the school, said the gesture would enhance education opportunities to vulnerable children.

He said the money would be disbursed in instalment to support provision of educational facilities, improve teachers’ welfare as well as provide enabling teaching and learning environment in the school.

“I am highly impressed with what I have seen here today, students’ performance is quite encouraging, as a government we are ready to support our children to receive good education (formal and non formal).

“I, therefore, announced an N80 million grant to the school.

“Each year, we will release N20 million to complement the payment of teachers’ salaries and other expenses.

“The first cheque of N20 million would be issued to the school management tomorrow (Monday),” he said.

Zulum also doled out  N4.1 million to 23 graduating students and 12 others, who memorised the Holy Qur’an.

He said that each of the beneficiaries would receive N250,000, while 11 others who completed their primary education but could not memorise the Holy Qur’an would get N100,000 each.

The governor charged parents to inculcate good teachings of Islam in their children to enable them to become responsible members of society.

While reiterating his commitment to infrastructure, social, and economic development, Zulum said his administration adopted proactive measures to combat crimes, protect lives and property in the state.
