Former Ekiti State Governor and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ayodele Fayose, has declared that he will not support former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition in 2027, insisting that power must rotate to the South.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Fayose said he openly worked against Atiku in the 2023 election and would do so again if he emerges as the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 polls.

He attributed the internal crisis within the PDP to the party’s failure to honour its zoning arrangement, claiming that Atiku’s emergence as the 2023 presidential candidate disregarded the principle of power rotation and further deepened divisions.

“The PDP has a tradition of zoning, and once that is ignored, there will be issues,” Fayose said. “After eight years of a Northern president, it is only fair that power shifts to the South.”

Fayose emphasized that even though the zoning arrangement may not be a written rule, it remains a crucial understanding that promotes fairness and unity within the party. He maintained that his position is in the best interest of the PDP and the country.
