Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Bashir Gegu, has cautioned that the All Progressives Congress (APC) could face defeat in the 2027 general elections if President Bola Tinubu and the party leadership fail to carry along former Governor Yahaya Bello.

Gegu issued the warning during a political gathering in Kogi Local Council, stressing that Bello remains the central figure behind the state’s current political structure and the ruling party’s enduring influence.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page, the commissioner was quoted as saying, “If former Governor Yahaya Bello is not carried along, APC cannot win Kogi State. That is the plain truth.”

He dismissed online criticism surrounding a recent rally held in Lokoja, clarifying that the event was not politically motivated but rather a gesture of appreciation to President Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for their leadership.

“The rally was a show of appreciation, not a protest. But let no one make the mistake, without Yahaya Bello, there’s no APC victory in Kogi,” Gegu added.

The commissioner also credited the former governor for establishing the foundation of political stability and enhancing Kogi’s visibility at the federal level, maintaining that Bello’s influence continues to resonate across all districts of the state.
