It also denounced the abduction of more than 300 pupils and 12 staff members from St Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, Niger State.

The union emphasized that classrooms as safe spaces for nurturing young minds and warned that attacks on schools threaten the future of children and the nation.
The union highlighted that repeated violence has forced some schools to shut down, endangering students’ education and reflecting the government’s failure to fully implement the Safe Schools Declaration and related policies.
NUT urged federal and state authorities to prioritize the safe rescue of abducted students and staff while strengthening security around schools, especially in vulnerable areas. The union also demanded the arrest of those responsible for the attacks.
The union warned that if the attacks continue, it will have no choice but to instruct all teachers to stop work and remain at home until their safety is guaranteed, emphasizing the urgent need to protect schools from further violence.
