Daily News 24 reports that Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin disclosed this on Tuesday via his X account, stating that the defection, which took place at the REIZ Continental Hotel in Abuja, included members of the Kano State SDP Working Committee, 38 local government chairmen and secretaries, as well as several former candidates for the House of Assembly and House of Representatives.

Describing the move as a major political shift, Barau said, “This mass defection marks a major political realignment and sends a clear message – the mission to use the SDP as a platform to challenge the APC in 2027 is dead on arrival.”
He also assured the new members of equal treatment within the APC, stating, “Whether you joined today or have been a long-standing member, you are part of one family working toward the common goal of national development.”
Barau commended the defectors for recognizing the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, adding, “These political heavyweights’ decision to join the APC is a testament to the remarkable progress being recorded under President Tinubu’s leadership.”
