A Federal High Court in Abuja has halted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from holding its national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The order, issued on Tuesday by Justice Peter Lifu, followed a suit filed by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, challenging the planned convention.

In his ruling, Justice Lifu described Lamido’s application as meritorious and restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from monitoring or recognizing any outcome from the exercise.

He also referenced an earlier judgment delivered on October 31 by Justice James Omotosho, which had similarly stopped the PDP from going ahead with the convention.

The judge said allowing the event to proceed could cause Lamido undue harm, emphasizing that the former governor is qualified to contest for the position of national chairman.

The court gave the PDP and INEC 72 hours to file their responses and adjourned the case to November 6 for hearing.
