An indigene of the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attack was in response to the killing of a vigilante member by suspected Lakurawa bandits. He explained that the attackers targeted the Fulani community, wrongly believing its members were responsible for the vigilante’s death.
Witnesses said the assailants stormed the settlement in the early hours of the day, shooting sporadically and setting houses ablaze, leading to multiple casualties.
In the wake of the tragedy, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association and Kebbi State’s Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida, visited the community to commiserate with the victims’ families and call for calm.
Meanwhile, the state police command has launched an investigation to uncover those behind the attack and prevent further escalation of violence in the area.
Authorities have urged residents to remain peaceful and allow security agencies to handle the situation as efforts continue to restore normalcy in Tilli and its neighbouring communities.
