The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old man, identified as Lawan Isa, for being in possession of suspected counterfeit foreign currency.
The arrest was confirmed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

According to him, the suspect was apprehended on October 5, 2025, at Gidan Lage Market following credible intelligence received by the police. Acting on the tip-off, officers swiftly moved to the location and took the suspect into custody.
During the operation, police recovered 56 pieces of suspected counterfeit $100 notes, one $1 note, four Android phones, and a keypad handset.
SP Adam added that the suspect could not provide a convincing explanation for possessing the fake currency. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, commended the officers for their swift action and called on residents to remain alert and report any suspicious movements or criminal activities to law enforcement agencies.
