Following frequent reports of unpatriotic politicians buying and hoarding permanent voter’s cards in various Kano communities, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) established mechanisms to check their excesses.

As a result of massive awareness created by the party on the aforementioned evil activities, community members in Dawaki East of Dawakin Tofa Local Government area of Kano State have reported a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) who was reportedly sighted with 29 copies of the Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) at Dawaki town on Wednesday 18th January 2023.

The suspect simply identified as Tasiu Abdullahi Hayin Hago, a 45 year old man was arrested by the police after reportedly being found in possession of 29 copies of PVCs belonging to unsuspecting members of the community, which is contrary to the Electoral Act of 2022 as amended.

In a statement issued by Sanusi Bature Dawakin  Tofa, the NNPP Chief Campaign Spokesperson For 2023 said the party had directed its legal team led by the state legal adviser Barr. Bashir Yusuf Tudunwazirchi to pursue the matter and ensure that the suspect is arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction to face the full wrath of the law.

“You may recall that we have recently secured judgment on similar case against the APC chairman of Yautar Arewa in Gabasawa local government area of Kano state” said Bature.

Sunusi Bature further stressed the need for community members to speak out and report incidences of this nature in the spirit of protecting democratic principles.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the arrest of the suspect to journalists in Kano, Bature said in the statement with quotation below;

“Yes, the case is with us and Tasiu Abdullahi Hayin Hago was arrested in Dawakin Tofa and subsequently transferred to the State CID for further investigation.”
