The Kano State Police Command has arrested nine suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate believed to be behind a series of violent attacks in Kano, Kaduna, and Abuja.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this during a press briefing held on Monday at the Police Headquarters in Bompai, Kano. He said the breakthrough followed a robbery incident that occurred on October 8, 2025, around 2 a.m. at Unguwar Wambai, Dorayi Babba Quarters in Kano.

According to him, the robbers, who were armed with rifles, stormed a residence, carted away a Toyota Yaris car, local and foreign currencies amounting to N3.7 million, mobile phones, and other valuables. During the attack, they also assaulted the complainant’s wife, inflicting serious injury and removing one of her teeth with a diamond object.
Bakori explained that following the incident, police officers attached to the Dorayi Divisional Headquarters arrested one suspect. Acting on his directive, the Command’s Special Intervention Squad launched a coordinated operation that led to the arrest of eight other suspects at different locations in Kano and Kaduna States.
Those arrested include Abubakar Aminu, 22; Aliyu Aliyu, 23; Abubakar Usman, 22; Sulaiman Sani, 20; Yusuf Yusuf, 17; Abdulrahman Aliyu, 23; Salisu Hussaini, 17; Sulaiman Abdullahi, 20; and Abdulmutallib Sa’ad, 24.
He said the suspects confessed to taking part in several armed robbery operations, including the recent attack at Unguwar Jakada in Dorayi Quarters, Kano. Items recovered from them include a double-barrel gun with 18 live cartridges, an English Falcon pistol, a scrapped Phoenix pistol, an iron cutter, two cutlasses, four sharp knives, three torchlights, two mobile phones, and a red Toyota Corolla LE used for their operations.
The commissioner stated that all the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation, adding that efforts are ongoing to recover more exhibits.
Bakori noted that the Command’s community-based crime-fighting initiative, known as “Operation Kukan Kura,” has played a key role in curbing criminal activities in the state. He said the initiative has resulted in a significant decline in phone snatching, robbery, and thuggery, which he described as “becoming a thing of the past.”
He commended the officers who took part in the operation for their professionalism and bravery, and he appreciated the public for providing credible information that aided the arrests.
“We remain committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Kano State,” Bakori said, urging residents to continue supporting the police with useful information to help combat crime.
