The Kano State Government is set to hold a mass wedding ceremony for at least 2,000 couples as part of its ongoing efforts to promote social welfare and strengthen family values across the state.

The directive for the exercise was issued to the State Hisba Board, which has been instructed to begin preparations ahead of the large-scale event.

Confirming the development in an interview with PUNCH on Thursday, the board’s Deputy Commander-General, Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen, said arrangements would soon commence to ensure a smooth and successful ceremony.

According to him, the initiative is aimed at reducing social vices, supporting vulnerable women such as widows, divorcees, and spinsters, and easing the financial burden associated with marriage.

As part of the pre-wedding process, interested couples will be required to register with the Hisba Board and undergo compulsory medical screening. The screening will include tests for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, genotype compatibility, and drug use to confirm their health status before marriage.

The state government has allocated N2.5 billion in the 2025 fiscal year for the mass wedding programme, reflecting its commitment to improving social welfare and promoting moral values.
