Over 1,000 members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, a faction within the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State, have dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors, who gathered at the Fine Time Events Centre in Kano metropolis on Sunday, publicly discarded their signature red caps, which serve as the emblem of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, to signal their defection.

Speaking at the event, the group’s leader, Aminu Murtala Minjibir, said the decision to join the APC followed the interventions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I Jibrin.
Minjibir announced that the defectors had rebranded themselves as “Barau Maliya One Blood,” noting that they were impressed by Senator Barau’s contributions to the welfare and development of the people of Kano State. He added that despite their years of commitment to the Kwankwasiyya Movement, they were disappointed by the NNPP’s leadership and performance.
Welcoming the new members, Senator Barau described their move as a wise choice, stating that the NNPP’s influence was diminishing while the APC remained the largest political party in Africa. He commended President Tinubu’s developmental strides and called on the defectors to support his administration through prayers and unity.
