In a statement on Friday, MC Tagwaye criticized the APC’s leadership, alleging that the party had strayed from its founding principles. He condemned what he described as a flawed reward system and a structure controlled by a select few, sidelining the voices of many. According to him, the party’s internal democracy had been “egregiously compromised,” with key decisions made by a small group rather than through broad consultations.
Explaining his move to the SDP, MC Tagwaye described the party as a platform that embodies transparency, accountability, and youth inclusion. He expressed confidence that the SDP represents the interests of ordinary Nigerians and called on others who share his vision to join him in shaping a better future.
His resignation from the APC was formally submitted to his ward chairman. MC Tagwaye is widely known for his comedic impersonations of former President Muhammadu Buhari, mimicking his voice and mannerisms in skits and public performances.
MC Tagwaye’s defection comes just days after former Kaduna State governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai also left the APC for the SDP. El-Rufai, in his announcement cited dissatisfaction with the ruling party’s direction, accusing its leadership of ignoring internal concerns and sidelining party organs. Declaring that the APC no longer aligned with his values, he urged opposition leaders and Nigerians to rally under the SDP as a united force ahead of the 2027 elections.
