Manchester United have parted ways with manager Erik ten Hag following their contentious 2-1 loss to West Ham, a result that has left the club languishing in 14th place in the Premier League.

This setback marks United’s fourth defeat in their first nine league matches, prompting a decisive move from the Old Trafford board.

Ten Hag, appointed in the summer of 2022 as the permanent successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, experienced early success with the club. In his debut season, he led United to the Carabao Cup victory, secured an FA Cup final spot, and achieved a top-four finish.

His second season, however, struggled to replicate this momentum, though it was highlighted by a significant FA Cup final win over Manchester City.

In recent months, INEOS, having acquired 27.7 percent of the club and taken control of football operations, conducted a comprehensive evaluation of Ten Hag’s tenure. Ultimately, they decided to retain him at the season’s start. However, as United’s form continued to decline, the board decided it was time for change.

In a statement, the club expressed gratitude, saying, “We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.” The club also announced that former United star Ruud van Nistelrooy would step in as interim head coach, with the current coaching team providing support while a permanent successor is sought.
