Former Kano State Governor and national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has called on the Kano State Commissioner of Police to withdraw security operatives stationed at the Nasarawa Palace, where the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, is currently residing.

Kwankwaso made the appeal while speaking at the official launch of the Kano State Government-owned Neighbourhood Watch Corps in Kano. During his address, he reiterated his position on the Kano Emirate dispute, insisting that Muhammadu Sanusi II remains the only legitimate Emir of Kano.

According to him, the continued deployment of security personnel to protect an alternative emir amounts to the creation of parallel traditional institutions, which he warned could threaten peace and stability in the state. He said using security agencies to impose an emir was unacceptable and capable of escalating tension among residents.

“The use of force or security personnel to sustain an emir outside the law is dangerous and could lead to unrest,” Kwankwaso stated, urging authorities to act with caution.

The former governor also described the decision to lodge Aminu Ado Bayero at the Nasarawa Palace as inconsistent with Kano’s long-standing traditions and the revered status of the emirate institution. He stressed that such actions undermine the cultural values and unity associated with the historic throne.

Kwankwaso further appealed to security agencies to operate strictly within the law and follow lawful directives, noting that any action capable of provoking public anger should be avoided in the interest of peace.
