The Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) has sealed off the premises of nine business outfits, including educational institutions, over alleged failure to remit taxes to the government.

Abbas Sa’idu, head of the KIRS enforcement unit, disclosed that the action followed a court order obtained by the agency after the affected firms failed to respond to several notifications about their outstanding tax liabilities.

He said the businesses ignored repeated correspondence from the board, prompting the agency to take enforcement steps to ensure compliance.

The director also stated that KIRS remains committed to boosting the state’s internally generated revenue by blocking leakages and ensuring tax compliance, in line with the goals of the current administration in Kano State.

He added that similar enforcement actions would continue against any business that fails to meet its tax obligations.
