The judgment, delivered by Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji of High Court No. 15 on Thursday, followed the court’s finding that the duo was guilty of killing Yalwa in the Danbare area of Kano metropolis.
According to court records, the convicts lured the victim under the guise of showing him a plot of land before strangling and stabbing him to death. The incident occurred in 2018 and was linked to a disagreement over a loan Yalwa had earlier given to one of the accused, Sagiru Lawan.
During the trial, the prosecution team, led by Barrister Aminu Ado Bello, presented six witnesses and tendered evidence that convinced the court beyond reasonable doubt. Justice Ma’aji described the prosecution’s case as clear and compelling, ruling that the defendants had indeed committed the crime as charged.
Consequently, the judge sentenced both Sagiru Lawan and Kabiru Alaramma to death by hanging, in accordance with Section 221 (b) of the Penal Code.
