The Kano State Government has declared Friday, September 12, 2025, which corresponds to 19th Rabi’ul Awwal, 1447 AH, as a public holiday in honour of Takutaha, the seventh day marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The announcement was contained in a circular signed by Salisu Mustapha, Permanent Secretary of the Establishment Directorate, on behalf of the Head of Civil Service.
According to the government, the holiday is an opportunity for residents to engage in prayers and reflections on the virtues of the Prophet. The statement further noted that Takutaha, which forms part of the annual Maulud celebrations in Kano and across Northern Nigeria, is significant for promoting Islamic teachings and values.
The government urged citizens to observe the day peacefully, stressing the importance of unity and harmony among communities. It also encouraged prayers for continued peace, stability, and prosperity in both Kano State and Nigeria at large.
Special gatherings and community activities are expected to hold across the state as faithful commemorate the Prophet’s legacy.
