Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has honoured Mrs. Marbel Ijeoma Duaka, a dedicated health worker, with a fully furnished two-bedroom house in Mafa Local Government Area.
The gesture took place during a ceremony inaugurated by the governor on Tuesday in Mafa, where 72 teachers and health workers received housing units under the state government’s housing initiative.

Mrs. Duaka, who hails from Anambra State, has served in Borno for more than 24 years, demonstrating unwavering commitment to her duties despite the region’s security challenges.
Governor Zulum commended Mrs. Duaka for her exceptional service, noting that she remained in Mafa throughout the Boko Haram insurgency, providing essential healthcare to residents. He revealed that she had also attended to members of his family, including his late mother. The governor directed that the house be officially allocated in her name and encouraged her to continue serving even after retirement.
In addition to the house, the governor announced a job offer for Mrs. Duaka’s son, Anthony, a graduate of Banking and Finance, at the state-owned Kashim Ibrahim University in Maiduguri.
Expressing her joy, Mrs. Duaka described the recognition as the happiest moment of her life, appreciating the governor for his continued support, including a scholarship that enabled her to earn a degree in Health Education.
Governor Zulum’s gesture follows a similar act of appreciation in 2020, when he gifted a house to Mrs. Obiageli Mazi, another non-indigene teacher from the Southeast, who was recognised for her dedication and punctuality after 31 years of service in Borno State.
