Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has successfully resolved a long-standing land dispute with the Danzakara community, marking a major achievement in the institution’s history.

The resolution came just days before the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, completes his five-year tenure, and the breakthrough was made possible through the intervention of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Speaking in his office while receiving the Kano State Council of Ulama, led by Chairman Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, Professor Abbas described the settlement as a “significant milestone” for BUK.

The resolution involved the demarcation of the university’s boundaries by the Kano State Ministry of Lands, with affected community members agreeing to relocate. Funding was also secured to fence the university’s perimeter, while a new Certificate of Occupancy will soon be issued to the institution.

Professor Abbas emphasized that the resolution strengthens the relationship between the university and surrounding communities. Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil congratulated Professor Abbas on his productive tenure, while Professor Rabiu Sa’ad praised his leadership in bringing the dispute to a successful conclusion.

Aside from the land dispute, Professor Abbas also raised concerns about the ongoing activities of the Yandaba gang in Kano, which have been linked to phone snatching and robbery. He called on stakeholders to join efforts in addressing this security threat.
