In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos, Adewale, who previously served as the Lagos State PDP Chairman, expressed his strong support for Abubakar’s presidential bid in 2027.
Adewale praised Abubakar’s vast experience and deep understanding of Nigerian politics. He highlighted the former vice president’s contentment and selflessness, highlighting these qualities in contrast to many other politicians motivated by personal gain.
The PDP chieftain also took aim at critics of Abubakar’s presidential ambition, particularly former PDP Deputy National Chairman Olabode George and ex-Governor Ayo Fayose. He accused them of prioritizing their personal interests over the party’s well-being, specifically their calls for Abubakar to either leave the PDP or abandon his presidential aspirations.
Furthermore, Adewale emphasized the need for electoral reforms to enhance Nigeria’s democracy, calling for a system that ensures free and fair elections. He argued that the flawed electoral process had hindered his own electoral success in Lagos State on multiple occasions.
Adewale strongly believes that Abubakar’s leadership experience makes him the ideal candidate to lead Nigeria toward a better future.
He dismissed the idea that opposition parties, such as the Labour Party, could alone unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Instead, he advocates for a coalition of like-minded parties to challenge the APC and restore the PDP to power.
