The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil (ASUU-KUST) groaned with a lot of distress on amputated salary to its members for the month of February 2022 by the University Administration.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the Branch Chairperson, Muhammad Sani Gaya and Secretary Murtala Muhammad.
The Union described the condition as primitive and inhumane, stressing that the action is illegal, unacceptable and condemnable in all its ramifications and must therefore be discontinued.

The information made available to the Union by the University Administration claimed that the payment of the amputated salary was predicated by the State Government removal of consequential adjustment.
The union viewed this commission by the State Government as a sad development, an apparent violation and infringement of Part 1 section 4 subsection 1 of the Labour Act that preserves the sanctity of workers entitlements.
The Union noted that while the economic downturn is severely having its impact on workers’ wages, the government has chosen to make it worst by deducting worker’s remunerations.
“We hope for the purpose of posterity, the State Government will endeavor to continue to win the confidence and good will of workers by coming up with popular policies in order to leave a good legacy”.
The union called on the State Government to immediately refund deducted funds from the University’s Salary for the month of February 2022.
