The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it is not concerned about the proposed alliance between Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In an interview on Monday, the APC’s National Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, stated that the alliance between Obi and Kwankwaso would not succeed, just as it failed before the 2023 elections.

According to Ibrahim, the major issue between the two political figures is a lack of trust, with both determined to pursue their presidential ambitions and unwilling to concede to the other.
“The most important factor in that permutation is the word trust, which will be the bane of their agreement,” Ibrahim said. “Kwankwaso and Peter Obi have tried forming an alliance in the past on several occasions, but their romance didn’t last beyond the bedroom. They are strange bedfellows who can’t sleep in the same room.”
Ibrahim dismissed the proposed alliance as mere rhetoric, saying it posed no threat to the APC.
“They are only making noise to survive. This merger won’t come to pass,” he added.
The comments followed Kwankwaso’s recent statement that he would consider being Obi’s running mate in 2027 under certain conditions. Labour Party’s National Secretary, Umar Farouk, welcomed the proposal, noting that the merger could succeed if Kwankwaso would be humble enough to work with Obi.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed support for the alliance. Abdullahi Ibrahim, the party’s National Deputy Publicity Secretary, described the proposed merger as a positive step toward liberating Nigerians from the APC-led government.
He emphasized the importance of opposition parties coming together to challenge the APC, noting that Nigerians were eager for change. “It is in the interest of this country for those who have the wherewithal to ensure they salvage the people from despair and despondency,” he said.
