The Hadejia Emirate Council in Jigawa State has imposed a curfew and established security checkpoints in response to rising insecurity and recent killings in the area.

The decision was reached during an emergency meeting held in Hadejia on Friday, bringing together stakeholders from the Hadejia Emirate Council, Malam Madori, and Kirikasamma local authorities. The meeting was convened to address growing security concerns in the region.

Speaking on behalf of the Emirate Council, Galadiman Hadejia, Usman Abdul’aziz, expressed deep concern over the spate of killings and urged local leaders to collaborate with security agencies to prevent further violence and restore peace.

The killing of 22-year-old Zainab Ibrahim, a newlywed woman found unconscious in a pool of blood at her home in Warware Quarters, Hadejia LGA, was a key trigger for the security measures.

Following deliberations, stakeholders agreed to enforce a curfew from 12:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m., effective immediately, and establish checkpoints at six major entry points into Hadejia town.

Chairman of the Security Committee of Hadejia Local Government Council, Ahmed Ari, stated that the curfew and checkpoints are intended to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety. He urged residents to cooperate with security agencies to ensure the effectiveness of the measures.

Additionally, the stakeholders resolved to strengthen joint patrols involving security forces and vigilante groups to improve surveillance and deter criminal elements in the affected areas.
