Speaking ahead of International Women’s Day (IWD), Mrs. Tinubu dismissed concerns about how the Senate is handling the controversy, asserting that lawmakers are “doing what is needful.”
“I know with what is going on in the Senate, you may ask why I am not taking oppositions. I believe that the Senate is doing what is needful because that’s what it is. It is a matured chamber, and it should be treated with respect,” she said.
The First Lady, who served as a senator for 12 years, emphasized that the Senate should be a place of honor, not controversy. She encouraged women to assert themselves in leadership and not allow men to talk to them disrespectfully.
As Nigeria prepares to mark IWD on March 8, Mrs. Tinubu commended the resilience of Nigerian women and celebrated their achievements. She recognized young figures like Zuriel Oduwole for their contributions to peace and urged women to keep striving for success.
The controversy arose after Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment and abuse of power, sparking debates over the Senate’s handling of the matter.
