Professor Jimoh Olanipekun of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has died after collapsing during a departmental meeting.

The university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, said the incident happened on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. He explained that Olanipekun began breathing abnormally and was rushed to the University Health and Medical Centre.
Despite receiving urgent medical attention, he was referred to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), where he was pronounced dead.
OAU’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Bamire, led a condolence visit to the late professor’s family, describing his death as shocking.
He urged the family to take comfort in his contributions to the university and prayed for strength for them and the academic community.
