The D’Tigress defeated Senegal 84-74 in Kigali, Rwanda, to etch their names in Nigerian basketball folklore.

This remarkable achievement places Nigeria at the forefront of the continent’s basketball landscape.

D’Tigress has proven their dominance once again by clinching the FIBA Afrobasket championship consecutively in 2017, 2019, 2021, and now in 2023.

Their latest victory came in a thrilling match against Senegal, where they emerged victorious with a scoreline of 84 points to 74, solidifying their reign.

Nigeria started the game on a good footing, winning 19-10 in the first quarter. At half-time, it was 43-31 in the D’Tigress’ favour.

But after the break, the Senegalese clawed back into the game. That gave them a 62-57 lead after the third quarter.

With just a quarter left, Coach Rena Wakama’s team fought stoutly to overpower their opponents and ended the game with a 10-point win. Mali took the bronze medal.

Notably, D’Tigress has made history with the outstanding coaching prowess of Rena Wakama, becoming the first female coach in Africa to secure an Afrobasket Title.

This achievement underlines the relentless dedication and exceptional leadership displayed by Coach Rena Wakama, who has propelled the team to unprecedented heights.

The outstanding performance of the D’Tigress has garnered widespread recognition, generating immense pride within Nigeria.

The entire nation is applauding the players, coaching staff, trainers, and all those involved in making this victory possible once again.

It is a moment of celebration and a testament to the team’s unwavering spirit and commitment.
