Economic respite is coming the way for over 300 hundred widows who are wives of the men and officers of the police in Kaduna.

This is as the police officers wives Association (POWA) is embarking on training and empowering these groups of people in other to be financially independent.

This is disclosed in a welcome address by the chairperson of the association, Hajia Aisha U. M Muri at the POWA annual empowerment programme in the state.

She said, “Given the turbulences faced by some Police families as regard financial difficulties, we intend to ensure economic growth and dynamism, and thankfully, a key part of the solution is to unlock the economic power of women by training and empowering over 300 widows of deceased Police Officers in Kaduna State who are financially struggling with no source of income and unable to provide for their families.”

“The empowerment is to be done in two ways, the first phase will equip the beneficiaries with skills and start-up packages targeted at getting them capacitated and empowered enough to abate financial challenges, while the second phase will give immediate support that will provide for immediate upkeep needs”, She explained.

Hajia Aisha equally noted that the training or start-up empowerment will not be repeated to widows who have already benefited from this empowerment program.

“This is to put in place, methods that will ensure bigger reach, equality, and fairness in the course of carrying out this intervention. We will also have this program supervised and evaluated by the right persons saddled with the responsibility of driving economic empowerment, measuring impact, and improving implementation strategies”

The Kaduna Commissioner of Police, CP U. M. Muri in his opening remarks, also noted that empowerment is a way of providing employment for the police widows and orphans, scholarships for their children, financial support to enable them to have a trade-in other to cater for the family.

Beneficiaries here have therefore been urged to utilize this opportunity well as to be economically capacitated.
