The internal conflict within the Peoples Democratic Party intensified on Tuesday as the faction aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike confirmed the removal of three state governors, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara.

According to a communiqué read by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu, the National Executive Committee (NEC) received a report from Acting National Chairman Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed outlining breaches of Articles 58(1) and 59(1), including anti-party activities, defiance of court rulings, and conduct that allegedly damaged the party’s reputation.

The NEC approved the start of disciplinary proceedings against 18 party members, including former Board of Trustees chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, former National Vice‑Chairman Bode George, and newly elected National Chairman Kabiru Turaki, SAN, alongside governors Bala Mohammed, Seyi Makinde, and Dauda Lawal.

The meeting also dissolved state executive councils in Oyo, Bauchi, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, and Ekiti, directing the establishment of caretaker committees and the organization of fresh party congresses in these states.

The move comes after the disputed PDP national convention held in Ibadan last Saturday, where Wike and his supporters were expelled, heightening tensions between rival factions. The conflict spilled over into a standoff at the party headquarters in Wadata Plaza, Abuja, where the two groups convened separate NEC and Board of Trustees sessions.

Senator Anyanwu’s reading of the communiqué emphasized that the disciplinary actions and dissolutions were in response to violations that, according to the faction, undermined party unity and contravened its constitution.
