Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has sent the names of two nominees to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as commissioners.

A statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, revealed that the nominees are Barrister Abdulkarim Kabir Maude and Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, both regarded as accomplished professionals in their fields.
Maude, a 40-year-old lawyer from Minjibir Local Government Area, is scheduled to be formally conferred as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) at the Supreme Court tomorrow. He is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he studied Law, and also holds an LLM in International Economic Law from Maryam Abacha American University of Niger, and a Master’s in Business Commercial Law from Bayero University, Kano. His legal career spans more than a decade, covering litigation, corporate practice, arbitration, and property management.
The second nominee, Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, is an Associate Professor of Mathematics with a strong academic and administrative background. The 41-year-old obtained his first degree from Bayero University, Kano, a master’s degree in Mathematics from Jordan University of Science and Technology, and later earned a PhD from Firat University, Turkey. He has served in various academic positions at Federal University Dutse and North West University, Kano, in addition to postdoctoral research at Sun Yat-Sen University, China. Since 2023, he has been the Statistician-General and Director General of the Kano State Bureau of Statistics.
In a related development, Governor Yusuf approved the appointment of Barrister Salisu Muhammad Tahir as the new Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice. Before this elevation, Tahir was the Director of Public Prosecution at the ministry.
The governor directed the Head of Service to complete the necessary administrative procedures for Tahir’s assumption of office by Monday, 29th September, 2025.
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed that the appointments reflect his administration’s commitment to merit, professionalism, and integrity in public service.
