Police in Kano have arrested 41 suspects in connection with the killing of the Divisional Police Officer of Rano Division, CSP Baba Ali.

The arrests were disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

The incident occurred after the DPO was accused of torturing a motorcycle mechanic, Abdullahi Musa, to death at the station. The development triggered outrage among residents of the area, leading to a mob action. The enraged crowd stormed the police station, attacked CSP Baba Ali, and set part of the facility ablaze, along with two patrol vehicles. Ten other vehicles were also destroyed during the attack.

The statement described the incident as a brutal and senseless attack. It added that the killing was a direct assault on the sacrifices of officers who risk their lives daily to safeguard the public.

According to the police, several of those arrested have been identified as principal suspects in the attack. The command assured that it will leave no stone unturned in bringing all perpetrators to justice.

The statement also paid tribute to the late CSP Baba Ali, commending his dedication to duty and the bravery of officers who continue to serve despite growing security challenges.
