The Kano State Censorship Board has announced an immediate suspension of all traditional medicine advertisements in films and on public streets, especially those aired using loudspeakers by street vendors.

Executive Secretary of the Board, Abba El-Mustapha, disclosed this during a press conference held at the Board’s office on Tuesday. He said the decision was prompted by widespread non-compliance with the Board’s regulations, which mandate that all content be vetted before being made public.
El-Mustapha stressed that many of the current advertisements are being circulated without undergoing the required censoring process, thereby breaching established guidelines. He directed all stakeholders involved including advertisers, film producers, and content owners to cease all promotional activities related to traditional medicine until the appropriate licenses are secured through official channels.
The Board has issued a one-week deadline for all vendors using loudspeakers or promoting traditional medicine in films to submit their content for proper evaluation.
It also appealed to television stations and the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to support efforts aimed at enforcing the ban and upholding moral standards within the state.
