Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has shared key findings from his recent visit to Edo State, where he led a high-powered delegation on a fact-finding and peace-building mission following reports of attacks on northerners.

He made the remarks on Friday shortly after returning from the visit, which aimed to assess the situation and engage with Edo State authorities on the safety of northerners living in the state.

The delegation, which included the Emir of Rano and other senior officials from Kano, visited Uromi in Esan North-East Local Government Area — the scene of the incident. There, they met with northern residents, sympathized with victims’ families, and held discussions with security agencies and community leaders.

He praised the Edo State government for taking swift action, including the disbandment of the vigilante group allegedly linked to the violence and the arrest of suspects believed to be involved in the killings.

He further noted that the transfer of the state’s Commissioner of Police demonstrated a serious commitment to restoring peace and justice.

Gwarzo said the delegation presented a detailed report to Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, who in turn promised to compensate victims and their families. He added that the Kano team made it clear that justice must be served and emphasized the right of every Nigerian to live and work in any part of the country without fear.

Quoting Governor Okpebholo, Gwarzo said the state government has pledged to ensure that those responsible for the attacks are brought to justice.

He also confirmed that 26 survivors of the attack, mostly from five local government areas in Kano State, were identified during the mission.

The visit followed an earlier condolence trip by Governor Okpebholo to Torankawa Community in Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano, where seven of the victims hailed from.

Gwarzo assured that based on their findings, the situation in Edo State is under control and that northerners residing there are safe.
