Two women have drowned in a pond in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State after reportedly going there to wash up after work.

The tragic incident happened on Tuesday morning, according to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi.
Abdullahi said the service received a distress call at about 11:15 a.m. from a local vigilance group, prompting the immediate deployment of a rescue team to the scene.
The victims were said to be staff members of a Zobo (hibiscus) processing company operating in the area. Their bodies were recovered and handed over to the police.
The fire service spokesman urged residents to avoid unsafe water bodies and observe safety measures, warning that negligence around ponds and rivers can lead to fatal accidents.
