Two men, Adeosun Samuel (48) and Qudari Wasiu (27), were on Thursday, arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged conspiracy and N928,000 fraud.
The defendants, Adeosun Samuel of No.1 Shofunwa Crescent, Agric, Ikorodu Lagos State, and Quadri Wasiu of No.12 Amukanfan Street, Abeokuta, Ogun State, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and fraud.
The police prosecutor, Insp Olumide Bamigbade, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Oct. 19 at Ologede Area in Ado-Ekiti.
Bamigbade alleged that the defendants conspired among themselves to obtain money under false pretence.
He also alleged that the defendants obtained the sum of N928,000 from one Dada Olumuyiwa, the Chairman OPH Sport Management in Ado-Ekiti, on the pretext to take one of his football players, Kingsley Tare, to Mauritania to join a football club.
According to him, the offence contravenes Sections 421 and 329 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.
Counsel to the defendants, Mr Paul Ayantoyinbo, urged the court to grant clients bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The Magistrate, Mrs Dolapo Kay-Williams, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
She adjourned the case till Dec. 21 for hearing.
