This follows the swift arrest of the accused, Bukar Modu, who was apprehended on Saturday night in Maiduguri.
Governor Zulum condemned the act during a meeting with the victim, emphasizing that such abuse is intolerable. He reiterated the need for a safe environment for children, saying, “Our children deserve a safe environment to grow and become meaningful members of society.”
Bashir, who lives with his family in an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Monguno after losing his father to Boko Haram insurgents, was reassured of continued support. In addition to the house and scholarship, the governor pledged further assistance to ensure the family’s well-being.
Zulum also instructed the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to initiate community sensitization programs aimed at teaching families and caregivers proper, non-abusive ways to discipline children.
