Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has declared Monday as a statewide day of fasting and prayer, urging residents to unite in seeking divine intervention for lasting peace and stability.

The announcement was made during a live address in Maiduguri, where the governor called on both Muslims and Christians to participate in the spiritual exercise with sincerity and commitment.

According to the governor, the decision is part of a broader strategy that merges spiritual efforts with community and government interventions to address the ongoing security challenges.

He emphasized that while military operations are being intensified, spiritual engagement remains a critical component of the overall approach to combating insecurity.

Zulum disclosed that he had held discussions with the Federal Government and security agencies to strengthen the state’s response to insurgency. He said the state has received assurances of increased support, including advanced tools, enhanced intelligence, and the empowerment of local security forces.

The governor also cautioned communities against collaborating with insurgents, describing such actions as a betrayal of the collective effort to achieve peace.

On the issue of water scarcity affecting parts of Maiduguri, Zulum attributed the problem to damaged pipelines caused by flooding in the previous year. He noted that repair work is ongoing and assured residents that restoration efforts are being prioritized.

In a bid to address rising criminal activities in urban areas, Zulum announced the reinstatement of the state’s Anti-Social Vices Committee. The committee is expected to work in partnership with security agencies to maintain law and order.

He concluded his address by encouraging residents to remain united and hopeful, expressing confidence that with collective faith and determination, peace and dignity would be restored in Borno State.
