Governors from the 19 Northern States have Condemned in totality the call by their southern counterparts that the president must go to the south come 2023, saying it is unconstitutional.
Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, Rt. Honourable Simon Lalong read the resolution after over four hours meeting at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna.
He said despite the expression by some Northern governors that the power shift to the three geo-political zones in the south in view to promoting national unity, it condemns the statement of the Southern Governor’s saying it is contradictory with the provision of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999.

Lalong explained that the Constitution stated that presidents must score the majority votes, score at least 25% of the votes cast in 2/3 states of the Federation.
The Forum appreciated the ongoing onslaught against Banditry, kidnapping and Boko Haram, especially in the northeast, North-west and North-Central.
They, therefore, encouraged the armed forces and other security agencies to sustain the tempo to enable the security challenges to be permanently addressed in the shortest time.
