The Sarkin Yarbawan Kano, Alhaji Murtala Alimi Otisese (Adetimirin I), has announced a N500 million fundraising initiative aimed at constructing a new palace for the Yoruba community in Kano.

The funds will also be used to build residential quarters for staff, a school for the less privileged, and a multi-purpose hall that will serve as a community center and generate revenue for the palace administration.

This was disclosed in a statement by Prince Zakariyau AbdulRasheed Rotimi, the palace secretary. Oba Murtala emphasized the importance of the project, stating, “To achieve the ambitious fundraising target of N500 million, the committee comprises five members, with Chief Akande Omotayo Kazeem appointed as chairperson and Chief Femi Smith Johnson as his assistant.”

According to him, the project will enhance the palace’s operations and contribute to the welfare of the Yoruba community in Kano. “To truly serve our community, we must adapt and modernize our facilities and offerings,” he said.

The committee, tasked with spearheading the fundraising efforts, will work diligently to organize events and programs aimed at generating the necessary funds. Oba Murtala expressed confidence in the community’s ability to rally support, both locally and internationally, for the noble cause.

“We are determined to mobilize support from our community and beyond, engaging everyone in this noble cause. Together, we can create a lasting legacy that will benefit future generations and foster unity and progress within our community,” he added.

The committee will begin its work immediately, focusing on laying the groundwork for events that will draw attention to the project and encourage contributions from donors worldwide.
