The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against welcoming back former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, warning that such a move could deepen the crisis within the party.

Speaking during a media chat on Monday, Wike said the PDP had failed to learn from the political missteps that cost it dearly during the 2023 general elections.

He recalled how he and other senior figures in the party had raised concerns before the polls about the unfair concentration of both the presidential ticket and the national chairmanship in the North. According to him, ignoring these warnings was a reckless decision that alienated members and eventually contributed to the party’s electoral defeat.

Wike maintained that Nigeria’s political balance requires the presidency to rotate back to the South, stressing that PDP’s arrogance and disregard for equity had left it in a weakened state.

On the suggestion of Obi returning to the PDP, Wike dismissed the idea as both “dangerous” and “hypocritical.” He argued that such a move would undermine the party’s credibility, erode its ideological foundation, and risk pushing it further towards collapse.
