A newly married man, Abubakar Abdulkarim, widely known as Dan Gaske, has been allegedly killed by his wife just three days after their wedding in Jibia, Katsina State.

The couple married on Thursday, 18 November 2025, and the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon. Community members said the wife attacked her husband with a knife while he was sleeping, leaving a fatal wound on his neck, Daily Trust reports.

A relative, Aminu Danladi, recalled spending the morning with Abubakar as they made plans for a family visit later in the day. He explained that the groom returned home to prepare but was later found dead.

Danladi also dismissed claims that the marriage was forced, saying the couple had been on good terms. The wife, identified as Zainab Muhammad, is in her twenties and is originally from Katsina metropolis. She was introduced to the groom by his nephew, who had attended Government Girls Secondary School, Jibia, with her. Sources noted that Zainab had previously been married and divorced, a detail the groom’s family reportedly did not know.

Investigators believe the act occurred between noon and 1 p.m. After the incident, the wife reportedly went to a neighbor’s house asking for food in a confused manner. Her behavior raised suspicion among elderly women in the area, who followed her home and found the groom’s lifeless body. They immediately alerted security personnel.

Police confirmed the case and said officers received the report around 1:30 p.m. Detectives found the victim in a pool of blood with a deep injury to his neck, and he was confirmed dead at the hospital. One suspect is currently in custody, and the Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, has ordered a thorough investigation while urging residents to assist with any useful information.
