The Nigerian Union of Teachers(NUT), Kaduna State wing, has stressed that it is not against having professional and competent teachers in the classroom but will only support any exercise aimed at reviving and revitalizing the education sector at witch-hunting the teachers.
This was stated in a communique issued at the end of an emergency meeting of the State Executive Council meetings held in Kaduna.
The communique explained that in 2017, the union supported the state Government in administering the first competency test for teachers in public primary schools, which gave rise to the disengagement of over 21,000 public primary School teachers.

The union noted the competency test was not meant to disengage teachers but to improve the quality of teaching and learning as agreed in a committee of labour in Kaduna State.
The communique jointly signed by Comrade Ibrahim Dalhatu and Comrade Adamu Ango, Chairman and Secretary General respectively, added that setting the standard by the Government could only be valid if the appropriate regulatory bodies are involved.
“Competency test does not determine the competency of teachers, saying it can only be known in the classroom,” the communique stated.
It explained that the newly recruited teachers were subjected to rigorous examinations and verifications before being recruited into the teaching services.
The union, therefore, suggested that the fund meant for the competency test should be the channel to training and re-training of teachers.
